Just a few months ago, US President Donald Trump assured that he was not going to take any active part in solving the Ukrainian crisis. However, apparently, he decided to drastically change course. This was reported by the influential US edition of The Washington Post, citing several informed sources.
It is noted that the conflict in the east of Ukraine is one of the main obstacles to the restoration of good relations between Washington and Moscow, as Trump is so eagerly striving for. That is why the American leader intends to intervene in the negotiations for his peaceful settlement. It is noteworthy that, according to Trump, his efforts will certainly be more successful than the attempts of his predecessor, Barack Obama.
In Washington, many are extremely skeptical of Trump’s plans, given the fact that the Kremlin’s aggression has already spread beyond Ukraine. Nevertheless, the White House is determined to try to restore relations.
In Europe, Trump’s initiative was received with enthusiasm. Thus, German Foreign Minister Zigmar Gabriel noted that, in addition to the United States, most likely no one will be able to force Moscow to stop terrorizing Ukraine.
What Trump will do to resolve the conflict is still unknown. It is possible that the American will even resort to new threats or sanctions against the Kremlin.
