From 2019 in the UN system implemented the so-called Institute ambassadors. In particular, the UN Ambassador will operate in Ukraine.
This was stated by the permanent representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko, reports “Mirror of week”.
“Now a U. N. Ambassador will operate in Ukraine. But for the full operation will have to be reviewed signed in 1992 the agreement between Ukraine and the UN, which does not meet modern realities,” the diplomat said.
According to him, now resident coordinators will report directly to the UN Secretary General and will be considered as the highest representatives of the UN system in countries. Their mandate will include not only the implementation of development programmes, as was the case until recently, but also improve the overall coordination between UN agencies and perhaps most importantly – the support of the governments to prevent crises (humanitarian, security, political, technological).
According to Yelchenko, the broader authority of resident coordinators must assist the Secretary-General to keep abreast in the field with the aim of rapid response. Accordingly, the requirements and responsibility of the United Nations will also increase.
