The speaker of the Permanent mission of Ukraine to the UN Oleg Nikolenko declared that today, February 12, will be a presentation to member States of the UN humanitarian response Plan for Ukraine in 2019.
About it reports UKRINFORM.
In particular, Nikolenko noted that the assistance will be aimed at ensuring the priority needs of the Ukrainians affected by Russian aggression in the Donbas, on both sides of the demarcation line.
“This year, the UN declared $ 163 million. According to calculations of the organization, this amount should enable to help the 2.3 million Ukrainians from among the most vulnerable categories of citizens in the East of our state,” he said.
Nikolenko reported that the implementation of humanitarian aid in the Donbass will provide more than 40 organizations, including UN agencies, national and international organizations. It is expected that the financing plan will be funded through donor contributions.
According to him, the Ukrainian side is now conducting active work with foreign partners with the aim of consolidating the necessary funds. Particularly important are the visits of foreign officials to the East of Ukraine, so they could see firsthand the needs of the residents of the region. He recalled that the difficult situation of the residents of Eastern Ukraine will also be discussed at a special session of the United Nations on 20 February.
“We are going to talk about the difficult humanitarian situation in the Donbas during the first session of the UN General Assembly on the situation in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine of 20 February,” said Olga Nicolenco.
The meeting beginning is planned at 17:00 Kyiv time.
We will remind, the Russian Federation initiated a meeting on 12 February, the UN security Council meeting on the situation in Ukraine under the pretext of the fourth anniversary of the signing of the Minsk agreements. Later, the UN security Council has postponed for 5 hours and the meeting on the Minsk agreement, which was initiated by Russia.
