Authoritative German magazine Der Spigel fired his star journalist, who was convicted of inventing stories and characters of materials.

“Klaas Relation, reporter and editor, forged their articles on a large scale and even came up with characters, tricking his colleagues and readers. This was revealed in consultations, internal investigations and, ultimately, the full recognition of the editor”, – told the publication.
During the work of Relationa to Der Spigel with the 2011 edition was published 60 articles of his authorship. At least 14 were inaccurate.
The first suspicions of the veracity of materials arose after the publication in November 2018 article “the Boundary hunters” on American vigilantes patrolling the border between Mexico and the United States.
The accuracy of some of the facts questioned the co-author of material Juan Moreno, who proved edition, that the story was fabricated. Relation first denied the charges, and then admitted that he had invented the whole pieces not only in the above-mentioned material, but also in other texts.
Relation included in the texts of people he never met and with whom no contact. He created the characters based on other media. In the end, in his texts it was about real people, but their stories were completely fictional.
Among the questionable histories of some journalist was nominated and even won a journalism award. For example, about two Iraqi children who were abducted and re-educated terrorist “Islamic state”, and also about Guantanamo prisoners.
To Der Spiegel journalist also worked for other leading media, including the Neue Zürcher Zeitung am Sonntag, Financial Times Deutschland, Die Tageszeitung, Die Welt, Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, Weltwoche, Zeit Online and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.
Because of the scandal, the leadership of Der Spiegel will create a Commission to investigate evidence of fabrication materials. Edition promises to publicly report its findings and recommendations to improve security arrangements.
