The Lithuanian foreign Ministry will initiate individual sanctions against the persons directly responsible for the seizure of the Ukrainian ships in the Black sea.

It is noted that the Lithuanian foreign Ministry appealed to the migration Department under the Ministry of internal Affairs with the proposal to include in the list of undesirable in Lithuania persons who directly participated in the aggression against the Ukrainian warships and crews on November 25, as well as representatives of the military leadership of the Russian Federation, responsible for this act.

According to the Ministry, the actions of these individuals is a gross violation of international law and a serious threat to international and Lithuanian national security.

“The Ministry of foreign Affairs strongly condemns these actions of the Russian Federation, which indicate a new escalation of Russian aggression against Ukraine, which has lasted for more than four years,” the statement said.

Lithuania calls on Russia to immediately stop aggressive actions against Ukraine, and immediately and without charge of any of the conditions to release the Ukrainian prisoners of war, court and restore unimpeded navigation in the Azov sea.

It is also noted that the Lithuanian foreign Ministry actively consults with other members of the international community regarding the necessary countermeasures against Russia.

Thus, Lithuania became the first EU member state that initiated the process of imposing sanctions in connection with the conflict in the Kerch Strait.

Recall, after the capture of Russia Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait on 25 November 2018, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman called on the EU to apply tougher sanctions against Russia and offered the mirror to meet the aggressor.
