The level of shadow economy of Ukraine in January-September 2018 amounted to 32% of official GDP, 1 PP less compared to the same period of 2017.
It is reported by RBC-Ukraine citing data from regular surveys of the Ministry of economic development and trade of Ukraine (MEDT).
As the Ministry noted, 32% – the lowest level over the last 10 years in the calculation for the period 9 months each year.
Unshadowing of the Ukrainian economy became possible due to:
- the continuation of positive economic trends and the preservation of the signs of General economic stabilization;
- strengthening of market trends and the gradual optimization process of price formation in domestic markets, including through deregulation of markets, along with the NBU implemented a tight monetary policy to contain inflation within the target range;
- to preserve favorable conditions for doing business in Ukraine, as evidenced by a fairly high level of business activity and improvement expectations
“At the same time, the dynamics of unshadowing of the Ukrainian economy is constrained by unresolved problems that have a negative impact on the economic development of the country as a whole. This, in particular, the presence of uncontrolled authorities of the territories formed in the course of military aggression in the East of the country”, – noted in the Ministry.
We will remind, according to National Bank, 2018 Ukrainian economy grew by the most in seven years – by 3.3%.
