The United States did not rule out the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russia for its aggression against Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait.
This was stated by the representative of the US State Department in Ukraine Kurt Volker, reports the observer.
“First, we speak with Germany, France and other Western partners, to be sure, we are coordinating our actions. This is a new escalation emanating from Russia in the conflict in Ukraine… I want to listen to the position of our partners… today,” said Walker at a press briefing in Brussels.
According to him, in response to the Russian aggression, the US must consider a number of approaches, including in terms of sanctions. According to the diplomat, the new restrictive measures may include the extension of the sanctions list of individuals and legal entities.
Walker also pointed to the lack of progress in the dialogue in the “Normandy format” on settlement of the situation with access to the sea of Azov. Russia has still not released the detained Ukrainian sailors, he recalled.
While Walker said that because of the incident in the Kerch Strait had to cancel a trip to Moscow, which he was preparing. Western countries must demonstrate support for Ukraine, including through some military expansion in the Black sea, added Walker.
