Russian “Novaya Gazeta” calls “unusually rectilinear intervention of the Kremlin” in the course of the Synodal discussions, the ROC on September 14 statement by the press Secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov on the Church theme.
The publication noted that about noon, when the meeting was already in full swing, Peskov said that the Kremlin “monitor” the work of the Synod and considered “the best” script “to preserve the unity of the Orthodox world”.
“Usually, the Patriarchate and the Kremlin has taken care of similar issues behind the scenes, and if the press Secretary of the President had to instruct the Patriarch through the airwaves, then the controversy reached serious proportions,” writes “the New newspaper”.
However, as the author notes, the rumors that Patriarch Kirill is “annoying the Kremlin” and so in the press from time to time there is dirt on it, have been circulating for a long time.
“After the big cry of the Patriarch was forced to cool a little and save for the future full and unconditional break communion with Constantinople and other Orthodox churches that support him”, – stated in the text.
“Novaya Gazeta” notes that the current gap is presented to the congregation as “incomplete”, the previous one, whereas the canonical law of the Orthodox Church knows only a complete tear – when one Church is accusing the other of heresy.
The publication also writes that the sensation was the absence in the Synod of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Onuphrius, who referred to the poor state of health.
“The Patriarch, it seems, did not believe him, because, while welcoming Kiev’s brother in the video, stated literally: “Glad to see You in power and strength!”, the newspaper writes.
In addition, according to the publication, in closing this greetings Cyril said to the Father: “We will have a discussion in the Synod and then, Your Beatitude, will inform You about the results,” and stopped the video.
“When this impolite phrase noticed. Andrey Kuraev, the press service of the Patriarchate hastily removed it with the official video,” reads the article.
There’s also the point that a couple of weeks ago during a visit to Istanbul Patriarch Kirill was not invited with a Metropolitan Onufriy.
The newspaper notes that the Primate of the UOC-MP is a self – governing Church of the Moscow Patriarchate – is the second status member of the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church after the Patriarch.
Through the situation with the granting of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the Constantinople Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on 14 September adopted a decision to suspend the commemoration of the Patriarch of Constantinople during the Liturgy of the Russian Orthodox Church.
According to the Russian Church, the situation of Tomos for Ukraine is allegedly a “threat to world Orthodoxy”.
In the Kyiv Patriarchate is convinced that the split of the Church after the Tomos, which scares the Moscow Patriarchate, is not just of the UOC-MP may deviate from communication.
