The State Bureau of Investigation is promised to deal only with independently opened criminal proceedings.
The State Bureau of Investigation (GDB) will not complete the investigation of the cases initiated by the Prosecutor General’s Office. Criminal proceedings in the Bureau will begin with a “clean slate”, Roman Pipe, director of the CBR, assured in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
He explained that the investigators will investigate the cases, which they did first.
“The legislator has determined the time during which the investigators of the prosecutor’s office have the opportunity to complete the pre-trial investigation – these are two years. In fact, during this period it is possible to complete an investigation of any complexity, multi-episode criminal case,” said the director of the Bureau.
In the opinion of Truby, it would be incorrect to conclude the cases of other investigators, since the main category of cases in the Prosecutor General’s Office in one way or another concerns events on the Maidan in 2014.
“Handing them over to new investigators of the GDB would mean putting them on a long pause, as new investigators need a lot of time to study the volumes of materials,” he explained.
Answering a question about whether this means that the CBD will investigate only those cases that it will itself open, the director of the Bureau said: “Yes, and I think that this is correct.”
“We will not be able to start work if we are overwhelmed with so many cases, every investigator who started the production, conducted the investigation, should be responsible for the quality and result of the investigation,” Truba explained.
Recall, previously were selected the first 75 investigators in the State Bureau of Investigation.
Before that, it was reported that the tender commission had selected 27 candidates for leadership positions in the GDB.
