Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew called upon the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Onuphrius, together with the hierarchs of the UOC-MP to take part in the future of Unifying Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox churches.
This is stated in the letter of the Ecumenical Patriarch to the Letter of 12 October 2018, the text of which is placed the Bishop of the UOC-MP Alexander drabinko on his page in Facebook.
“We inform you that after the election of the Primate of the Ukrainian Church body, which would consist of clergy and laity, you will not be able ecclesiologically and canonically to wear the title of Metropolitan of Kiev that you still wear now in violation of the above conditions official documents 1686”, – the document says.
Bartholomew urged the father to take part together with the hierarchs of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate in the future, the founding of the United Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and electoral processes to determine its Primate.
“Your Eminence, of course, allowed to be a candidate for this position. We are also asking you and your hierarchy to be in communication with the former Metropolitan Filaret of Kyiv and former Archbishop Macarius and others with them, because they were fully restored by us in argalasti, but not in their posts and titles, in connection with our positive decision in the appeal requests, which they have repeatedly sent us,” the letter says.
At the same time, his Beatitude Onufry, and after him the other bishops of the UOC-MP, who received invitations to the unity Council, sent them with no reply – back to Fanar.
This was reported on the website of the “Union of Orthodox journalists”, citing a source from the non-Church circles.
It is noted that the letter received from Patriarch Bartholomew, a letter of invitation to the unity Council, a sealed message in an envelope and no response sent back to the author. Similarly, we intend to do and the other bishops of the UOC, sending back the invitation.
These actions by hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church can be considered a response to the controversial action Fanara to the UPC and its bishops.
Also, today it was reported that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on 12 October 2018 has sent a letter to the Primate of the UOC-MP Onufry with the reasons of granting Ukraine Autocephalous Church and urging them to arrive at the unity of the Cathedral and to take part in it.
