The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko awarded the order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise IV degree two metropolitans of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
The corresponding Decree of the President dated 1 December posted on the website of the President.
The priests awarded on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the confirmation of all-Ukrainian referendum of the Act of independence of Ukraine on 1 December 1991.
In particular, the order awarded to Alexey Smooth (Anatolia) – the Metropolitan of Sarny and Polissya, the Manager Sarny eparchy of the UOC (Kyiv region) and Dmitry Dmitruk (steward) – Metropolitan of Cherkasy and Kanevskomu “for significant personal contribution to nation-building, socio-economic, scientific-technical, cultural and educational development of the Ukrainian state, weighty labor achievements, many years of conscientious work”.
We will remind, on October 11, the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate decided to grant the Tomos of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
In July 2018, Poroshenko stated that he would not interfere in Church Affairs.
