The Polish authorities intend to build an artificial island in the Gulf of Kaliningrad with the aim of ensuring public security and improving the economic situation in the region.
According to the chief editor and portal Onet, the island will be located in the territorial waters of Poland and rise to 2-3 meters above sea level.
The island will have the shape of an ellipse with a length of about two km and a width of about 1 km. the project Budget will amount to approximately 880 million PLN.
In comments Газета.Ru the Governor of the Kaliningrad region Anton Alikhanov stated that the intentions of Poland frivolous and more like PR.
“In essence, therefore, the Polish authorities plan to dispose of production waste in the construction of the channel to remove the ground to the dump. A kind of structure of the island is the way to save. But there is another issue — the construction of the canal has not yet been agreed by the European Commission, therefore, such intention is likely perceived as a PR,” said Alikhanov.
