The start of the mission InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) was held on 5 may 2018. Its main task is the study of the internal structure of Mars and the geological processes occurring in the subsoil thereof. Landing on the surface of the red planet occurred in the settlement on 26 November 2018 19:53 coordinated universal time (UTC), in an area the size 130 to 27 kilometers in the highlands of Elysium. The scientific load of the device consists of several devices, two cameras, a weather sensor and a corner reflector.

Two main instruments of the mission will work on the ground next to the landing platform, where they put a 2.4-meter robotic arm IDA (Instrument Deployment Arm). One of them is the SEIS seismometer that will measure tectonic activity of the planet, and register the fall of meteorites.

The second tool — Electromechanical drill HP3 able to create in the Martian soil well with a depth of five meters. It will be placed ribbon, ten inches of which are temperature sensors for measuring heat flow in the Martian soil and indirect estimates of the composition of the soil.

After landing, the station has successfully deployed its solar panels and transmitted to Earth pictures, which made it possible to assess the properties of the soil in the planting site. It turned out that the landing platform in a small village, covered with sand and dust impact crater, and slightly inclined laterally (about 4 degrees, the maximum tilt is 15 degrees), and there are no large rocks, which facilitates the task of drilling a well. Mission, engineers have already begun to operate a 2.4-meter robotic arm IDA (Instrument Deployment Arm) so that the team could choose places on the surface of the red planet for two main scientific instruments of the mission of the seismometer SEIS and HP3 Electromechanical drill.
To prepare tools to work and sending the first data from them will take two to three months.
