Medvedchuk: the Termination of the “Big Treaty” is politically unwise and strategically disastrous decision

Медведчук: Прекращение действия «Большого договора»  — политически недальновидное и стратегически провальное решение

Politically unwise and strategically disastrous called representative of the “Opposition platform For life” Viktor Medvedchuk, the initiative to terminate the “Big Treaty” with Russia.

According to policy, the termination of the Agreement on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation will strike not only on the Ukrainian-Russian relations, as the state of Ukraine and Ukrainian citizens.

“First, the provisions of this agreement are guaranteed the security and protection of our citizens on the territory of Russia (according to various estimates, we are talking about 3-4 million Ukrainians who annually go to Russia for work, because our “reformist” government could not provide them neither jobs nor a decent salary).

Secondly, according to experts in international Affairs, the provisions of “the Big contract” underlie about 400 agreements under international law, involving Ukraine and Russia.

Thirdly, the termination of the “Big Treaty” will blow in the key Ukraine question — the restoration of peace in Donbas. Namely, the problem of settlement of the conflict in the East of Ukraine today is the most important for our citizens: according to the November survey, KIIS, so consider more than two thirds of Ukrainians”, — said Viktor Medvedchuk.

The politician was firmly convinced that initiatives aimed at the gap, the termination of cooperation with Russia on the principle of “razed to the ground, and then…” do not correspond to the interests of the Ukrainian people.

“But wholly fit into the logic of the “war party”, which is beneficial to whipping up anti-Russian hysteria and radical Russophobia and which is interested in the militarization of society, the division of the country and the escalation of the conflict in Donbass”, — said the representative of “the Opposition platform — For life.”

The failure of this policy of government — militant rhetoric and calls to sever all ties with Russia, close the borders, stop public transport, a visa to enter, build a Wall or dig ditches will become apparent when faced with reality, I’m sure Medvedchuk.

“The reality is this: the length of the border between Ukraine and Russia is 2,200 kilometers. Moreover, Ukrainians and Russians share not only common borders, but also trade and economic relations, kinship, common history, cultural and spiritual traditions…” — said the politician.

According to Medvedchuk, sooner or later, the Ukrainian government, on the basis of objective realities and needs of the state, you will understand that it is necessary to sign a new cooperation agreement.

“But whether it reflects the interests of Ukraine and whether its provisions even remotely close to what is spelled out in the current Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, — the big question. This means that the termination of the “Big Treaty” (again, political short-sighted and strategically disastrous decision) will have disastrous consequences for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people”, — said the representative of “Opposition platform For life” Viktor Medvedchuk.
