On the territory of Belarusian reserve “olmansky swamps”, located in the border with Ukraine Stolin district, Brest region, work is underway on the construction and modernization of roads, which can be used for military purposes.

About it reports the Belarusian opposition website “Charter-97” referring to an anonymous source from one of the ministries of Ukraine. It is noted that one of the ways costs about $1 million.

Environmentalists are sounding the alarm because of the project, as large-scale construction brings great harm to the unique ecosystem.

Built road infrastructure can facilitate the delivery of border guards to places of service, and to provide additional opportunity for movement of military equipment of the Belarusian army on the ground “woodland”. In addition, the roads can be used to deliver the manpower, weapons and military equipment close to the Ukrainian border.

In the material indicates that during 2014-2017, the Belarusian authorities have created a number of sidings of the rear areas of the country and forest roads with a length of about 96 kilometers.

Road access was established to the frontier “alimony” bordering the village of Perebrody Rivne region, and to the border posts “Mutvytsya”, “Khimichev”, the checkpoint “Village”, bordering on the Ukrainian villages Drozdyn, zabolottya and Poznan. In the vicinity of this phase of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border are the Zhytomyr and Novohrad-Volyns’kyi.

Belarusian volunteer in Ukraine Vadim Kabanchuk commentary portal notes that it is a threat to the entire region.

“Cross-border activity of the Belarusian side takes place against the background glow of the Ukrainian-Russian conflict. All of these actions can have consequences,” said the volunteer.

Kabanchuk believes that the infrastructure undertaken by the Belarusian authorities, is not built for logging, which is formally stated.

“The cost of which is included in this way is not worth of a forest that you plan to take. There is no economic expediency in the construction of this road”, — he stressed.

“Such infrastructure is built in the direction of Chernigov. There is road building in forests, which are directly suited to the border. Belarusian army creates an additional approach to the Ukrainian borders. Why is it done? I will not spend time on halftone and mitigating phrases: all of these objects have a purely military significance,” the volunteer added.
