Montenegro plans to rebuild their local Church, as the country’s dominant Serbian Orthodox Church undermines the independence of the state, said in a broadcast on Montenegrin television, the head of state Milo Djukanovic.
About it writes Today.
“Serbian Orthodox Church very aggressively undermine Montenegrin independence. I believe that it is necessary to continue work on the restoration of the Autocephalous Montenegrin Orthodox Church and the state will do and bear for it responsibility”, – he said in an interview with RTCG.
It should be noted that the autocephaly of the Montenegrin Orthodox Church was proclaimed in 1993, but it was not recognized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate, despite the fact that for 60 years before Konstantinopol it was still recognized.
Before the Montenegrin Orthodox Church ranked 9th in the list of Autocephalous Orthodox churches, but in 1918, the Serbian leadership banned its activities, and 4 years later Constantinople joined the Montenegrin Church to the Belgrade Archdiocese.
