Expert trilateral meeting of Ukraine, EU and Russia on gas, which was to be held on January 15, is cancelled.
This was reported on Monday the press-Secretary of the Deputy head of the European Commission for the Energy Union Maros Sefcovic Anna-Kaisa Itkonen.
The meeting of Ministers is planned for January 21.
“Expert advice, which was scheduled for January 15 on the eve of the Ministerial meeting will not take place,” she said.
Recall that trilateral gas talks involving Ukraine, the European Commission and Russia will be held in Brussels on 21 January. Sefcovic noted that the second round of trilateral talks with Russia and Ukraine on long-term gas transit will take place on 21 January in Brussels.
Recently, the Director of “Naftogaz” Yuriy Vitrenko said that the lobbyists “Nord stream-2” and some European politicians are using the tripartite negotiations as an argument in favor of this project.
Also, Vitrenko said that “restoring the balance of interests,” which “Naftogaz” demands, the Russian monopoly “Gazprom” in negotiations on gas transit, only possible on the basis of the decision of the Stockholm arbitration.
About transfer negotiations in January was stated by the Minister of energy of Russia Alexander Novak. According to him, the meeting could take place in the second half of January, before her scheduled talks at the expert level.
Earlier it was reported, the validity of the contract on the transit of Russian gas to the EU from 2009 expires on 1 January 2020. Until that time, the NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine” expects to complete unbundling of the company by passing the gas transportation assets to a new independent operator GTS – the company “Trunk gas pipelines of Ukraine”.
