Space Agency NASA has published a list of the 9 American companies that will cooperate on sending landers.
It is reported AIN.
They entered the program NASA CLPS. Selected companies will be able to compete for the money of the Agency providing their services for the delivery of cargo or scientific equipment on the moon’s surface.
Among the firms: Lockheed Martin, Astrobotic, Moon Express, Masten Space Systems, Deep Space Systems, Draper, Intuitive Machines, Orbit the Beyond, and Firefly Aerospace. The latter — Ukrainian roots.
The company was established on the basis of Firefly Space Systems, which in 2017 was bought and relaunched the Ukrainian businessman and the founder of Noosphere Ventures Maxim Polyakov. It develops lungs transporters for cargo delivery into orbit.
Its head office is in USA, but the R&D center the company opened in the river. There are developing the electric propulsion and satellite. But while the company did not carry out a test or commercial launches — the first test is scheduled for 2019, when it will have access to the spaceport.
The total amount of contracts that can the participants obtain CLPS — more than $2.6 billion Number of possible missions, and the amount of remuneration for each, was not disclosed. As reports The Verge, citing Thomas Zurbuchen, Deputy division of NASA’s science missions, the Agency is considering providing funds for equipment and research. However, NASA does not expect all 9 companies that will succeed in the development of the moon.
The program CLPS will be the first step on the path to retry sending a man to the moon. The corresponding Directive of the President trump signed in December 2017. Since then, the Agency develops a complex plan to bring it to life. Small scientific devices created and launched by private companies needs to expand understanding of the available resources on the moon. For example, to find the ice, which will be useful for creating rocket fuel. Tested on devices the technology will be able to create fully manned descent module. Also in the plans of the Agency — the construction of the space station Gateway, which will serve as an Outpost for astronauts and ships travelling to the moon.
Recall that NASA was warned about the cooling of the Earth.
