Very rare first edition of Nikolai Gogol’s “Evenings on a farm near Dikanka” was sold at Christie’s auction in London for 175 000 pounds (6.4 million UAH).

The publication consists of two volumes and released under a pseudonym. The first volume was published in 1831 and another in 1832 (during the life of Gogol). Printed in the first volume of the novel “eve of Ivan Kupala”, “may night or the Drowned maiden”, “Sorochinskaya fair” and “Lost letter”, in the second volume – “a Terrible revenge”, “the Night before Christmas,” “the Enchanted spot” and “Ivan Fyodorovich Shponka and his aunt”.
The book became the most expensive lot of the auction “Russian literary first editions and manuscripts”.
