Столица Ирана скорой уйдет под землю - ученые

Tehran, which is now home to almost 15 million people, actively falls to the ground. The analysis of satellite images for the period from 2003 to 2017 showed that some areas of the city annually subside almost 25 inches.

This is reported by news of the world.

“This is one of the highest current indicators of subsidence in the world,” says Roberto Thomas, engineer of the University of Alicante in Spain.

One of the dangers of this phenomenon — the sudden formation of giant cracks in the ground. Recently, in a crack with a depth of 6 meters has failed a local farmer. Cracks to form next to the fields, to suck the water intended for irrigation of agricultural crops.

According to scientists, subsidence has affected about 10% of Tehran, as well as numerous satellite towns and villages.

“Walking through these areas, we observe a rough road, offset curbs, cracks in the walls and even the skewed buildings, some of which will have to carry,” says geophysicist Mahdi Motag from the German research centre for Geosciences.
