The Duke of Cambridge, everyone knows, ranks second in the queue for the British royal throne, so sooner or later the day will come when Prince William becomes King William V. And his wife, Duchess Catherine, will be called Queen Catherine VI? Not certainly in that way.
The royal historian Marlen Koenig believes that most likely Kate Middleton will become Queen Catherine – without a title number.
The wife of the king is traditionally a queen. In most monarchies, the queen’s husband must have a title, but does not share it with his wife,
– explained the expert, why Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, did not become king.
The numbers in the title are given only to the sovereign, therefore the Duchess Keith will not be Queen Catherine VI.
By the way, when Prince Charles ascends to the throne, the eldest son will take his titles: the Duke of Cornwall and the Duke of Rothesay, and Kate Middleton will inherit them from her husband. Prince William, according to Marlene Koenig, will receive another title from his grandmother – the Prince of Wales, and his wife, accordingly, will become a princess of Wales.
