The Cabinet in November 2018 and has raised the price of gas for Ukrainians, not because it was demanded by the IMF, but because the other option for balancing the budget deficit in 2019, the government did not come up.

“When the government increased the price of gas is 23.5%, it was a decision at the government level. That is, when the government raised the price, the initiative that the Cabinet invited the IMF in the context of balancing the state budget-2019 – that is, in the opinion of the Cabinet, the budget cannot be balanced to the 3% deficit without raising gas prices,” – said the expert.
A. Yakubina said: some media have distorted the data, saying that Russian gas for Ukraine has risen due to the requirements of the International monetary Fund.
“The media wrote that the IMF requires, but it was just the result of an agreement on the initiative of our government that we raise the price of gas and this will balance the state budget-2019 and to smooth over the situation with the number of subsidianes”, – said the analyst.
At the same time, he added, the process of raising gas prices is not yet completed after the decision of the Cabinet will take appropriate decisions by local authorities. Accordingly, the dynamics of increasing gas prices in regions may vary.
“Should now take place allocations at the local level and in each region may be different specifics of tariff”, – said A. Yakubina.
