Expert: Unification Council – a part of the election campaign Poroshenko, and has nothing to do with religion

Политолог: Объединительный собор – часть предвыборной кампании Порошенко, и не имеет отношения к религии

The unification Council is the only political event is contrary to the Constitution of Ukraine and relevant to religion only indirectly related, because there the President will represent their own political interests, covering it with the need to create “independent” of one local Church.

This opinion in comments to the correspondent of ГолосUA said political analyst Alexei Yakubina.

“Even for those who tried to pretend he did not understand that here politics and elections play a key role, becomes so clear, that it is difficult to deny the obvious. Who announces the date of the Unification Church? The President. And his Advisor Rostislav Pavlenko said at a special briefing on how to pass this event. What does this mean? This suggests that the Unification Council is a completely political event, contrary to the Constitution of Ukraine”, – said the analyst.

A. Yakubina also added that if in the preparation for the elections, Yulia Tymoshenko was her New deal, which presented its political program, Poroshenko apparently decided that in this event he will have a unity Council. After all, if you read the program of the President 2014, there is generally no question of any “Unifying councils”, “Single local Church”, etc.

“Accordingly, the challenges of canonical clergy of the UOC-MP in for questioning in the SBU, saying that the fact that the government still hopes, but with the help of a whip, to force the part of the hierarchs of the UOC to the Unification Council. Although, on 7 December last year the Holy Synod of the UOC-MP had clearly forbidden him to participate in his hierarchy. Thus, it is already possible to draw conclusions about what would be the role of a Single local Church. This would be a completely politicized organization in which religion would play a minor role”, – concluded the expert.

Recall, November 19, on the website of the General Secretariat of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, it was reported that the Unification Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will be held in December.

Also, the report said that in preparation for the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on November 27-29, Constantinople recalls its decision to grant the Tomos of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

“While there is a process for the preparation of Council of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, a specific date in December 2018 will be announced by the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate”, – stated in the message.

Later, on 7 December, the Bishop of the UOC-MP Alexander drabinko on his page in Facebook posted the text of the letter of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, in which he called on the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Onuphrius, together with the hierarchs of the UOC-MP to take part in the future of Unifying Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox churches.

Bartholomew urged the father to take part together with the hierarchs of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate in the future, the founding of the United Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and electoral processes to determine its Primate.

“Your Eminence, of course, allowed to be a candidate for this position. We are also asking you and your hierarchy to be in communication with the former Metropolitan Filaret of Kyiv and former Archbishop Macarius and others with them, because they were fully restored by us in argalasti, but not in their posts and titles, in connection with our positive decision in the appeal requests, which they have repeatedly sent us,” the letter says.

Also, yesterday, 7 November, the Holy Synod of the UOC-MP has forbidden his bishops and laity to participate in the Unification Council.

“Planned “unification Council” is considered an illegal meeting, since it will be attended by representatives of schismatic groups. In this regard, and based on the resolution of the Council of bishops dated November 13, 2018, the bishops, clergy, monastics and laity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to participate in the so-called unification Council is not blessed”, – reported the website of UOC-MP.
