Scientists from the American heart Association found that a lifestyle change for 16 weeks can significantly lower blood pressure and reduce the need for drugs to combat hypertension.
Their study is published on the portal EurekAlert.
Doctors explain that patients with high blood pressure should pay special attention to the diet and sport. And this applies to both men and women.
This conclusion they did after conducted an experiment, which was attended by 129 people aged 40 to 80 years who are overweight and high blood pressure. They were divided into three groups and have developed a special program.
The first was a special diet high in fruits and vegetables and low red meat, salt and sweets. They also run three times a week for sports coaches. The second group was fed on the same program, but not trained. The third did neither. The participants also didn’t take the meds.
Participants from the first group had reduced not only blood pressure, but weight. They managed to reduce the indicators: 16 points — the “top” and 10 “lower”. After the experiment, only 15 percent of the participants needed medicines.
