Canada considers unacceptable ways of reaching the Russian Federation of its goals on the international stage and to cooperate with international partners to attract Russia accountable for its illegal actions, and urges Moscow to carry out its obligations.
This was stated by canadian foreign Ministry, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“From the statement for the 10th anniversary of the war between Russia and Georgia: Canada unequivocally condemns the Russian scheme is unacceptable for international action. We will work with international partners to attract Russia to account for its disgraceful and unlawful actions”, – quotes extracts from the corresponding statements in connection with the 10th anniversary of the war between Russia and Georgia Minister of foreign Affairs of Canada Christi Freeland of the U.S. Ambassador in Ukraine Roman Vashchuk in his Twitter account on Wednesday morning.
At the same time in a statement posted on the foreign Affairs Canada website says that “over the 10 years that have passed since the tragic war between Russia and Georgia, more than 100 thousand of Georgians remain displaced, and thousands continue to live under Russian occupation”.
Freeland notes that the Russian occupation of South Ossetia and Abkhazia violates international law and harms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia”.
“Russia must adhere to its obligations under the agreement on the ceasefire of 12 August 2008 and the agreement on implementing measures of 8 September 2008 with the aim of achieving a peaceful solution to this conflict. We also call on Russia to allow access of the observers mission of the European Union to the territories in which it exercises actual control,” – said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Canada.
Chrystia Freeland also noted that Canada welcomed the new peace initiative of the Georgian government “a Step to a better future”, aimed at improving the humanitarian and socio-economic living conditions of the residents of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in Georgia.
“Canada stands shoulder to shoulder with Georgia in support of its sovereignty and territorial integrity”, – said the foreign Minister of this country.
