US special envoy on settlement issues in Ukraine Kurt Volker said that the administration of President Donald trump will continue to increase pressure on Russia, primarily because of the introduction of new sanctions intervals of a month or two.
He said this during a speech Thursday at the analytical center “Atlantic Council” in Washington, UKRINFORM reported.
“We are trying to increase pressure on Russia to force it to conduct the negotiations, which will lead to the solution (with respect to the settlement of the conflict in the East of Ukraine – Ed.). This includes the continuation of the sanctions in the United States, as well as the strengthening of these sanctions periodically over time”, – said the representative of the United States.
He stressed that this is the path pursued by the administration of President trump, and will continue to do so in the future.
“You will see how you will gain momentum for further sanctions – monthly or every two months, so, as we have seen earlier,” said Walker.
He also stressed that Washington is working on this issue with European partners. “The European Union has shown great resilience in terms of their (sanctions against Russia – Ed.) of preservation,” noted the American diplomat.
As reported, after the annexation of Crimea the USA entered the first package of sanctions against Russia, and in April 2018 Washington imposed new sanctions against Russian businessmen and officials, as well as financial institutions and companies associated with the Kremlin, is one of the most powerful packages of sanctions against Russia, related, including, with its aggression against Ukraine. The restrictions were imposed on the Act of countering the enemies of America through sanctions (CAATSA), approved in August last year.
