Just a month after the wedding of Prince Harry, the royal family is preparing for another. Lord Ivar Mountbatten, the third cousin of Queen Elizabeth, is about to marry his partner this summer in a private chapel in his own estate, marking the first gay marriage in the history of the royal family.
55-year-old Ivar declared homosexuality in 2016, five years after the divorce from his wife Penny. He met James Coyle the same year after meeting in the Swiss mountain ski village of Verbier.
“All my good friends took James. I said to everyone: “I found something – it’s a guy,” Ivan said in the Daily Mail. – At first, everyone laughed. Then they met James, and one of the friends said: “If I were gay, I would also take care of him.”
Ivar said that the upcoming wedding was entirely his idea, since James, an airline employee, had never been married before.
